Decoding how astrocyte–neuron circuits regulate sleep
We investigate how glial and neuronal networks shape sleep dynamics and cognition
using in vivo electrophysiology and imaging.

AstroSleePÂ lab
Welcome!
Led by Carolina G. Herrera, the AstroSleep Lab investigates how the plasticity of integrated neuron–astrocyte circuits regulate sleep and its critical roles in cognitive processing. Using in vivo electrophysiology, advanced imaging, and behavioral tracking, we identify brain circuits that shape sleep and its oscillatory dynamics in health and disease. Our current research focuses on the mechanisms of sleep disruption and on understanding the links between sleep and neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders, including stroke and insomnia, across animal models and human studies.
